In the world of Final Fantasy VII, the Ruby Weapon is depicted as one of five legendary guardians deployed under dire circumstances to combat major planetary threats. Originally, it was only featured briefly during one of the cinematic cutscenes in the original Japanese version of Final Fantasy VII, but was given a much more prominent role in the subsequent Western and International releases as a notoriously difficult optional boss character. Generally, it is recommended that players attempting to engage Ruby Weapon in battle have their Knights of the Round, Hades, and Mime Materia summons mastered, triple or double growth weapons equipped, a Final Attack-Revive/Phoenix Down combination, multi-hit limits such as Omnislash, and plenty of elixirs stashed in the inventory for safe keeping. However, there are multiple exceptions based on skill and what type of strategy is used. Those who manage to successfully defeat Ruby Weapon will receive an item called the Desert Rose, which can be traded to the Mourner of Kalm for a Gold Chocobo.
