  • History

Final Cut Pro initially had some trouble making it to market due to licensing issues with Microsoft. The product was eventually purchased from Macromedia by Apple in 1999. Apple had planned to sell the software to another company but was unable to find a buyer. Instead, they continued to develop it. At the time, much of the video editing was done on Windows based machines using Adobe's Premier software. After the introduction of Final Cut Pro, the market begin to shift towards using the software on a Mac. Final Cut Pro now makes up 49% of the professional video editing market.
