Fields of Fuel is a 2007 independent film selected for the documentary competition at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The movie focuses on the use of biodiesel fuel and how it can replace diesel in vehicles and reduce the use of fossil fuels in the United States. After it's Sundance premiere it was recut and titled Fuel.
Background
Fields of Fuel was the brainchild of environmental activist and biodiesel expert Joshua Tickell who, after being raised amongst towering oil refineries in Louisiana, began research alternative energy solutions in the 1990s. Tickell's book, From the Fryer to the Fuel Tank became an instant classic and an indispensable guide to converting diesel-burning cars to biodiesel. In the film, Tickell points out that Henry Ford and Rudolf Diesel originally designed their automobiles to run on vegetable oil, but that oil barons like John D. Rockefeller put the kibosh on the cheap and plentiful fuel source and created the oil addiction currently plaguing the world economy today.
Fields of Fuel won the Audience Award for Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival and received a standing ovation at the 2008 Beverly Hills International Film Festival.
