Fidelity Investments announced in the fall of 2008 that it would cut about 3000 jobs. About 1300 of those job cuts took place the same year. The rest will occur during the first quarter of 2009. Sale Rumors
In January 2009, the newspaper Boston Globe speculated that CEO Ned Johnson might be planning to sell the company. The paper based its speculations on the announced layoffs and the fact that many recently hired key executives don't live in Boston, but in New York City.
