Fibonacci Code

Categories: Science | Mathematics
  • The Fibonacci Code is based on the mathematical works of Leonard Fibonacci, who lived in the 13th century. The code is based on the Fibonacci Sequence which scientists have dubbed The Golden Ratio, as it has been found to occur in many forms within nature.University of Surrey: The Fibonacci Numbers and Golden section in Nature
  • Background

The Fibonacci Code takes the numbers derived from the Golden Ratio and ascribes them into a binary code. This code has many uses and has found application in programming and market analysis as well. One of the attractions of using the Fibonacci Code is that it is easier to recover data encoded that has been damaged somehow. Instead of a damaged bit of data rendering the rest of the code useless, data encoded with this code will only lose three bits of data at most.Golden Museum: Fibonacci Codes

  • The Golden Ratio

While researching the theoretical reproduction rates of rabbits, Fibonacci discovered The Golden Ratio. By observing that each generation of offspring was a mathematical solution to the sum of the two previous generations, the Fibonacci Sequence was born. The ratio between any two sets of adjacent numbers within the sequence was found to be a standard number, not a variable. As a result of this discovery, many forms within architecture and nature have been found to exhibit the same ratio, which studies have shown is pleasing to the human eye.University of Surrey: The Fibonacci Numbers and Golden section in Nature
