History
In 1913, Ferrum was founded by Dr. Benjamin M. Beckham, Lutie Roberts of the Woman’s Missionary Society and board members of the Virginia Annual Conference of the Methodist Church. The school began with a faculty of six and 99 students when it opened its doors in 1914. The college was awarded accreditation as a four-year college by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1976.Ferrum College Faculty Handbook: History
The Campus
The Ferrum campus is located on 700 acres near the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. The nearest large cities are Roanoke, Virginia, and Greensboro in North Carolina.
