Fernando Pessoa was a Portuguese poet, translator and literary critic. Throughout most of his life, Pessoa was a virtual recluse and his works did not reach a large audience until after his death. Pessoa created over 70 alter-egos, which he referred to as "heteronyms," complete with personalities and biographies, under whose names some of his writing was published.
