  • Fenway Park is the home stadium of the Boston Red Sox. It is currently the oldest Major League Baseball stadium in use.
  • Background

Fenway Park was built on an unusually shaped, cobbled-together group of lots in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston. While the park is the oldest currently in use, incremental improvements made almost since the day it opened has allowed it to keep up with the times, while retaining an old-time feel and important historical features. For example, despite its Jumbotron, the score is also kept on an old-time manual scoreboard on the Green Monster.
  • The Green Monster

The most well-known feature of Fenway is "The Green Monster". Because the land purchased was not enough to allow left field to reach its customary depth (center left field measures at only 310 feet), the architects built a 37-foot wall which was allegedly high enough to compensate. In 2003, seats were added to the top of the wall, a move which at the time created some controversy.
  • Pesky's Pole

The right field foul pole is named after legendary Red Sox player Johnny Pesky, who was known for hitting home runs very close to it.
  • Attendance Records

In 1935, 47,627 fans crammed into Fenway Park. Fire codes in the wake of the Cocoanut Grove fire of 1942 prevented attendance from reaching those heights again, and current maximum capacity of the park is 37,400.
