The eldest son of Afrobeat music pioneer and activist Fela Kuti, Femi Kuti is a musician and human rights activist in his own right. Born in London in 1962, Kuti was raised in the former Nigerian capital of Lagos. He began his musical career in 1978 as a member of his father's band Egypt 80. Since that time, he developed his own sound and touring outfit. In 1994, he signed with the Motown record label and has collaborated with a number of U.S. artists including Common and Mos Def.
