Felix Hernandez is a Starting Pitcher for the Seattle Mariners. He is widely regarded as one of the best young starting pitchers in baseball.
Early Life
Felix Abraham Hernandez was born in Valencia, Venezuela on April 8, 1986. He would attend high school in Venezuela under the watchful eyes of baseball scouts. Several teams would express an interest in the young right hander including the Houston Astros, the New York Yankees and the Atlanta Braves, but the Mariners scouts were able to develop a good relationship with the family of the young star. After turning 16, the Mariners signed Hernandez as a nondrafted free agent in 2002. He would effectively develop his impressive skills in the minor leagues for three years. In 2004, he was named the Mariners minor league pitcher of the year.
Pro Career
Hernandez would make his major league debut on August 4, 2005. He would display glimpses of his potential in his short stay . In his first full season in 2006, he would throw his first complete game and in a separate game a shut out against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Hernandez would record his best game to date in 2007 with a complete game one hit shut out against the Boston Red Sox and Daisuke Matsuzaka, winning the game 3-0.
