The song "1, 2, 3, 4" was featured on an iPod commercial and helped bring her even greater exposure.Though relatively unknown in the United States before her album The Reminder, Feist received her breakthrough when the music video for her song "1 2 3 4" was featured in an iPod Nano commercial in 2007.
The video, done in one continuous shot, featured Feist among a colorful group of dancers, making various formations and suddenly disappearing at the end. The video, and the exposure from Apple, helped make the song her most successful single to date.
Career of Leslie Feist
Leslie Feist (The woman behind the "Feist" band name) was born February 13th, 1976 in Amherst, Nova Scotia.http://www.starpulse.com/Music/Feist/Biography/. At a young age Leslie, and her family moved to Calgary, Alberta.
While in High School there, she joined an all-girl punk band called Placebo (no relation to the UK band of the same name). Their band won a battle of the bands competition, and played their first gig in 1991 opening for The Ramones. Over the next five years Feist toured around Canada with her rock music. This took a serious toll on the young singer; she ended up straining her voice so badly, that she was told she would never sing again.
In 1998 she moved to Toronto to see a specialist with a second opinion. She was advised to not sing for 6 months, and during that time off she purchased a guitar and began honing her modern pop sound in her basement.
A year later the band By Divine Right asked her to join the band as their touring guitarist. This got her some more exposure, as she was playing in sold out stadiums and the band even opened for The Tragically Hip on their North American Tour. Shortly after this in 1999 she had enough time to release her first solo album Monarch (Lay Down Your Jeweled Head).
After playing some smaller gigs locally, Feist then moved in with the Electroclash rappper Vixen Peaches in 2000. Peaches christened Feist "Bitch Lap-Lap". Feist sang in support of Vixen Peaches' debut album, Teaches of Peaches. Not one to stick around long, In 2002 Feist then joined up with Broken Social Scene on the recording of their second or sophomore album, called You Forgot It in People. The album became wildly successful and the following year won the Juno for best Alternative Album of the Year.
In between touring North America and Europe with Broken Social Scene Leslie decided to focus attention back on herself and her solo music. She worked on her solo material with Renaud Letang of Manu Chao and Chilly Gonzales, traveling back and forth frequently between Calgary, Toronto, and Paris for the album's recording. Let It Die was soon released on the Arts & Crafts label in May 2004. Songs like Mushaboom quickly caught everyones attention, and by the following year it rewarded her with two Juno awards.
In 2006 Feist released Open Season, an album of remixes of her prior albums songs, along with some new material and collaborations. The following year she began working on her next full length album. She recorded and created the material in a week in a rented house near Paris, France. The album would be called, The Reminder and released in Spring, 2007. Her newest creation started selling and charting very well; it debuted at number two in Canada and number sixteen on the U.S.'s Billboard charts. Lifted by singles like "My Moon My Man" and "1234," the album became the year's best-selling item on Apple's iTunes Service and took home Feist's second set of Juno Awards.
