  • January 2009 Crash

    On January 27, 2009, a FedEx cargo plane attempting to land skidded off a runway and crashed at an airport in Lubbock, Texas. Two crew members reportedly suffered "minor" injuries in the accident, which happened while light, freezing rain was falling in the area. Reports said a small fire was reported on board the aircraft, but the extent of the damage to the plane was unknown.     Cost-cutting by FedEx begun in December 2008 included pay cuts for an estimated 14,000 workers in Memphis, a permanent 5% pay cut for 36,000 salaried exempt employees nationwide, and larger pay cuts for top executives. FedEx has suspended matching 401(k) contributions and plans to extend pay cuts to foreign workers as well.
