February is the second month of the year on the Gregorian Calendar. Named for the Latin word februum (meaning purification), it is the second and shortest month of the year, consisting of 28 days, except during Leap Years, when there are 29 days in February. In the northern hemisphere, it falls in winter, and in the southern hemisphere it falls in summer.
