Career
After playing rent parties and clubs in his late teens, Fats Waller began recording for Victor Records (later RCA Victor) in 1926. His early compositions, "Ain't Misbehavin'" and "Honeysuckle Rose," became standards. Both songs were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1984 and 1999 respectively.Despite his premature death from pneumonia in 1943, Waller is considered to be one of the greatest jazz entertainers of all time.Allmusic: Fats Waller Biography His stride style of piano playing influenced many other artists, including Count Basie and Thelonious Monk.
