Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly is a survival horror video game developed and published by Tecmo for Sony's Playstation 2 and Microsoft's Xbox video game consoles. The game continues the premise of the original Fatal Frame with new protagonists. In this game, twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura wander into a mysterious abandoned village when Mayu is enthralled by an ethereal crimson butterly and follows it into the town. As Mio, players must search the town in search of Mayu, collecting clues and fighting ghosts using the magical Camera Obscura, a camera with the ability to exorcise ghosts by taking photos of them.
Crimson Ritual
Though it seems at first as though the twins' unfortunate entry into the lost town is accidental, as the story progresses it becomes apparent that it is no accident. The town was the scene of a mysterious ritual called The Crimson Ritual; as Miyo collects more clues over the course of the game, it becomes more and more clear that the ritual is deeply connected to the catastrophe that turn the town into a literal ghost town.
