Farmtown is a social networking game on Facebook and MySpace where players create and maintain a virtual farm. In Farmtown, users start off with a plot of land and must plow, plant and harvest various crops in order to gain money. The goal is to expand the farm and gain experience points. Users level up with experience points earned by purchasing items with their earned coins, plowing, planting and harvesting. This Facebook farming game was released in 2009.
In Farmtown, player can earn coins by working on their friend's farms by plowing blocks of land, tending to and harvesting crops. Coins can also be earned by selling their own crops. Additional coins can be acquired by selling the gifts that are sent by friends. The coins can then be spent on buying new seeds. When the seeds are planted, they grow into new crops, which can then be sold for a profit. Because it costs coins to plow fields, some users "hire" neighbors, at a cheaper price, to plow their fields.http://r1.slashkey.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3355190#post3355190
In Farmtown, players earn trophies as they progress in the game. There are three categories of trophies that players can earn. The first is "Neighbor" trophies. These are given when players reach a new popularity level. Awards are given when players have acquired 5,8, 10, 15 and 20 neighbors. The highest Neighbor trophy is the Celebrity neighbor trophy. Another kind of trophy is the Visitors trophy, these are awarded when the player has attracted visitors to their farm. The highest level is the Tourist visitor trophy, which is earned when the player's farm has been visited 5000 times. The third trophy category is the Shopping trophy. The highest trophy for this is the Millionaire shopper trophy, given when the player has spent 1,000,000 coins.http://r1.slashkey.com/forum/showthread.php?t=314826
In June 2010, Slashkey added 30 more levels to the game, increasing the top level from 60 to 90. Also new in 2010, second farms were made available to the players, along with factories, fishing, and the ability to earn experience and coins from harvesting the animals.

Best Farmtown Crop per Time net per day
2 Hour - Raspberry (Only 2 hour) - 144 coins
4 Hour - Grapes (Only 4 hour) - 96 coins
1 Day - Cabbage - 42 coins
2 Day - Peppers - 54 coins
3 Day - Pineapples - 64 coins
4 Day - Pumpkin (Only 4 day) - 44 coins
Plow
You can plow any piece of land that does not have something growing on it. Plowing costs 20 coins and gains you 1 XP. You can actually save money and still get the 1 XP each by hiring someone to do the plowing for you. Plowing costs 15 coins if you hire somebody who is not one of your neighbors. If you hire a neighbor it only costs 10 coins to plow. This is especially helpful when you have upgraded the size of your farm several times. You can hire multiple people at once to plow for you.
You can also use a machine to do your plowing of larger plots.
Farmtown Multiple Farms
Farmtown allows you to add a second and third full farm. With the additional space you can more affectively harvest animals and put up refineries.
Processing Plants
Farmtown has added several processing plants. Sugar refineries, grain mills and such. These require your friends to work in them to produce higher grade goods.
Plant
What you plant determines is determined by how often you want to plant and your goal. If your goal is to make a pretty farm pick whatever you please. If you want to level quickly you'll need to chose certain crops. If you want to make the maximum money you'll need to chose even more different crops.
To level quickly you pick shorter crops. Because you get XP for plowing and planting picking grapes or raspberries will level you faster.
To maximize money you need to pick longer crops with higher payouts. Cabbage pays the best of the one day crops, but peas yield more than double the coins.
The new large seeder allows you to plant 2x2 plots with one click. It uses gas which you can refill once a day. The amount you get depends on your level and number of friends. At higher levels you never need to buy refills as your daily allotment is not enough to plant your entire farm.
How to earn Farmcash on Farmtown!
The only completely free way to earn Farmcash is to level up. You earn one dollar per level.
The next way is to complete offers. Offers can and usually cost some money so weigh these options carefully.
The final way is to purchase them. It might be best to wait for one of the random events where the developers temporarily lower the cost.
Farmtown Animals
You can now harvest some of the animals in Farmtown. To do so you have to have the appropriate housing. So a stable for horses, coop for chickens, etc. Each animal has a different rate at which you can harvest.

Video: Coolest Farmtown Designs
This is a user made video featuring some really unique and elaborate Farmtown farms. In this YouTube video, you'll see some farms that have images drawn on the fields using crops and other items like hay bales.
Wait
There are lots of things you can do while your not actually working on your farm. Visiting neighbors/buddies, chat at the pub, or get hired at the market.
Visiting each of your neighbors yields 6 XP for completing helping them by raking, watering, etc. Make sure you water any flowers they have as you can gain a couple extra coins this way.
Going to the market and getting hired to harvest another player's crop can gain you lots of coins. Please be polite and only harvest the crops they ask you too. Lots of people don't like their fruit trees harvested because they like the pretty fruit on them and don't really want the money from them. Be sure to ask before harvesting.
You can also get hired to plow. If you get hired to harvest you can most likely get hired to plow afterward but please be polite and don't beg. Wait until all the harvesting is done to ask to plow, as plowing yields more experience points than harvesting.
Harvest
Now you can harvest your own crops. This will give you more experience. You can opt to get more money by hiring people from the marketplace or your friends if they are on. You make about 20% more if you hire somebody to harvest your crops for you. For example, oranges harvested by you earn 43 coins, and if you hire out, you'll earn 52 coins per cabbage, plus they get experience.
Settings
Click on the wrench icon in the upper left.
These settings are helpful for many reasons. The first is hiding items that are in the way of harvesting or plowing areas you cannot see.
- Show Trees
- Show Flowers
- Show Buildings
Another big feature is the "Remove Space Between Fields". This allows you to plant your items closer together, utilizing valuable space.
