Farmtown is a farm management game on Facebook, run as a Facebook application.
The user starts off with a plot of land and has to plow, plant and harvest various crops to gain money to expand. Leveling happens by performing these tasks but also purchasing items.
As of July 2009, the game had over 11 million users.http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=56748925791
Tips
- Make sure to login every day to get your Daily Lottery coins.
- Add neighbors so that you can visit them every day. They add +6XP each time.
- Always hire people to havest your crops as you get more money.
- In the beginning do not buy trees as they take months to pay back.
- Although it may seem easier don't plant in great big blocks. It causes your char to walk around in werid paths.
- Buying buildings adds lots of experience.
- Buying upgrades adds lots of experience.(Upgrades are enlargements of your property.)
- Buying items for your farm will add exp.(Paths, Hay bales...)
- Buying flowers is a great way to add lots of experience.
Plow
You can plow any piece of grown that does not have something growing on it. Plowing costs 20 coins and gains you 1 XP. You can actually save money and still get the 1 XP each by hiring someone to do the plowing for you. Plowing costs 15 coins if you hire somebody who is not one of your neighbors. If you hire a neighbor it only costs 10 coins to plow. This is especially helpful when you have upgraded the size of your farm several times. You can hire multiple people at once to plow for you.
You can also use a machine to do your plowing of larger plots. It's still best to let somebody else plow as it costs less and gives you and the other user XP.Plant
What you plant determines is determined by how often you want to plant and your goal. If you goal is to make a pretty farm pick whatever you please. If you want to level quickly you'll need to chose certain crops. If you want to make the maximum money you'll need to chose even more different crops.
To level quickly you pick shorter crops. Because you get XP for plowing and planting picking grapes or raspberries will level you faster.
To maximize money you need to pick longer crops with higher payouts. Cabbage pays the best of 1 day crops but Peas yield more than double the coins.
The new large seeder allows you to plant 2x2 plots with one click. It uses gas which you can refill once a day. The amount you get depends on your level and number of friends. At higher levels you never need to buy refills as your daily allotment is enough to plant your entire farm. How to earn farmcash on Farmtown!
The only completely free way to earn farmcash is to level. You earn one dollar per level. The next way is to complete offers. Offers can and usually cost some money so way. It can be purchasing a service like Netflix. Some of the credit card offers are pretty straight forward and work well if you don't currently have one.
The final way is to purchase them. It might be best to wait for one of the random events where the developers temporarily lower the cost.
Farmtown Animals
Unlike Farmville the animals in Farmtown are simply ornamentation. They roam around and look pretty but you can't harvest them. You can sell them but unless they are given to you, you will lose money.

Wait
There are lots of things you can do while your not actually working on your farm. Visiting neighbors/buddies, chat at the pub, or get hired at the market.Visiting each of your neighbors yields 6 XP for completing helping them.(Raking, Watering, ...) Make sure you water any flowers they have as you can gain a couple extra coins this way.
Going to the market and getting hired to harvest another's crop can gain you lots of coin. Please be polite and only harvest the crops they ask you too. Lots of people don't like their fruit trees harvested because they like the pretty fruit on them and don't really want the money from them.
You can also get hired to plow. If you get hired to harvest you can most likely get hired to plow afterward but please be polite and don't beg. Wait until all the harvesting is done to ask to plow.
-
Harvest
Now you can harvest your own crops. This will give you more experience. You can opt to get more money by hiring people from the marketplace or your friends if they are on. You make about 20% more if you hire somebody to harvest your crops for you.(Oranges Self 43 Hired 52, Cabbage Self 107 Hired 128) -
Settings
Click on the wrench icon in the upper left. These settings are helpful for many reasons. The first is hiding items that are in the way of harvesting or plowing areas you cannot see. Show Trees Show Flowers Show Buildings Another big feature is the "Remove Space Between Fields". This allows you to plant your items closer together. Remember when using this feature to still breakup your plantings. The reason you need to is because the path finding of the little characters gets screwed up and you'll spend all your time walking back and forth when you try to plow or plant. I don't see a lot of difference -
