Fargo is a 1996 crime drama about a car salesman (William H. Macy) who is so far in debt that he hires a pair of hitmen to kidnap his wife and hold her for ransom. Investigating the crime is a pregnant policewoman (Frances McDormand) who is able to untangle the events surrounding the crime and eventually track down people responsible. The film is notable for its heavy use of regional dialects and small-town accents. Written, directed and produced by The Coen Brothers, the film was a critical success and won two Academy Awards (one for McDormand for Best Actress) and another for Best Original Screenplay).
