Faramir is a fictional character from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. He is a captain of Gondor and brother to The Fellowship of the Ring's Boromir. In The Lord of the Rings books, he shows resistance to the ring's power when he allows Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee to continue unhindered on their errand to destroy the one ring in the fires of Mount Doom.

Brief Background
Faramir is a fictional character and the captain of Gondor, a city inhabited by the race of men. He is the younger brother of Boromir who is killed while on a quest to destroy the one ring.
Faramir captures Frodo and Samwise Gamgee as they travel with Gollum to destroy the ring. He initially wants to send the ring to Gondor, but he soon realizes that the ring must be destroyed, and he allows Frodo and Samwise safe passage towards Mordor.
