The Far East Movement, or FM, is an electro/pop/hip-hop quartet of Asian Americans based out of Koreatown in Los Angeles. In 2009, the Far East Movement launched their high profile career when they performed at L.A.'s Powerhouse 106 concert with big names such as Kid Cudi, Jay-Z, Sean Paul, The Black Eyed Peas, Flo Rida, Pitbull, LMFAO and Lil Jon. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1617947/20090810/jay_z.jhtml Their label also manages Lady GaGa, so FM performed the opening acts at her Monsterball Tour in Japan in early 2010. http://www.ladygaga.com/events/default.aspx?arch=arch&pg=2Their song "Like a G6" reached number one on Billboard's Top 100 and on iTunes in October, 2010. http://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100#/charts/hot-100?chartDate=2010-10-30Some of their other songs, "Girls on the Dancefloor", "Rocketeer" and "Go Ape" are also popular.
Career
J-Splif (James Roh), Kev Nish (Kevin Nishimura) and Prohgress (Jae Choung) met in high school back in the early 2000s in Los Angeles. Like A G6 ft. The Cataracs & Dev
"Like a G6" is the Far East Movement's first big hit. It hit number one on Billboard as a single even before their album Free Wired was released. They wrote it with The Cataracs and had Dev sing their chorus. Their line "fly like a G6" is in reference to the Gulfstream 650 jet.
