Story
The story in Far Cry Instincts was modified from the original version included in Far Cry (2004). In this version, Jack Carver doesn't have a boat charter company in the South Pacific, but instead is living in Manhattan, where he relocated after being discharged from the U.S. Navy. After he is blacklisted by the Mafia, Carver relocates yet again to Micronesia, where he meets Valerie Cortez, the journalist who hires him to transport her to the mysterious island of “Jacutan.” Upon arrival, Cortez leaves the beach, and Carver is attacked by military helicopters. After fleeing into the jungle, Carver makes radio contact with a man named “Doyle.” It is revealed that Doyle has been captured by a scientist named Dr. Krieger, a madman working with powerful and dangerous genetic experimentation.
Gameplay
Given that the Xbox has less graphical capabilities than a fully equipped gaming PC, Far Cry Instincts was modified to include less open-ended “sand box” type of gameplay, featuring more linear game progression. However, the game also includes new weapons, new multiplayer modes, and a notable gameplay addition called “feral abilities”: Carver discovers that he is capable of animalistic power, such as “feral speed,” “feral attack” and “feral vision.”
