Far Cry 2 is the second installment in the Far Cry series. Jack Carver, the protagonist in the first game, does not appear in Far Cry 2. Instead, players can choose between nine different characters to play.

Rather than having an individual map for each level, the entire game now takes place on a single map that measures about 50km². The game takes place on a continent inspired by Africa, with scenery ranging from deserts to jungles.
