Far Cry 2 takes place in a fictional African state embroiled in conflict. The player character is tasked with hunting down an unscrupulous arms dealer who is providing weapons to both factions.
The Setting
In order to research and create a realistic setting for the game, members of the Far Cry 2 development team traveled to Kenya where they encountered elephants, hippos, hyenas and lions. On their two-week trip, the team was able to study African architecture, vegetation and wildlife. They experienced savannah, jungle and desert environments. And, according to reviews, they then successfully reproduced that experience in the game.Edge Online: Far Cry 2's African Heritage Metacritic: Far Cry 2 Reviews (Xbox 360)
