• Far Cry is a 2004 sci-fi first-person shooter developed by Crytek exclusively for the PC. The game is the first in the Far Cry series.

  • Story

    Jack Carver is an ex-special forces soldier who has given up the military life and started a boat charter company in the south Pacific. When transporting the female journalist Val Cortez, his boat is attacked by mercenaries, destroying the boat and leaving Carver stranded. Carver makes his way around the island, eventually discovering the work of Krieger, a mysterious scientist. It appears that Krieger, a genetic scientist, has engaged in disturbing experiments. Grotesque beasts populate the entire island, seemingly the result of one of Krieger's imperfect genetic processes. Jack must search for Val and rescue her, as well as uncover the island's mystery and stop Krieger.

  • Gameplay

    Far Cry is a first-person shooter that incorporates a number of open-ended gameplay features. For instance, when storming an enemy location, the objective can be completed using a variety of infiltration techniques. Stealth is an encouraged aspect of the game, though it is not a requirement to pass each section. In addition to its open-ended slant, the game was also highly praised for both its detailed jungle/island graphics, as well as its implementation of "ragdoll physics" for enemies.
