This is Part 18 of our complete Fallout 3 Walkthrough, featuring Fallout 3 Reilly's Rangers.
Reillys Rangers
- You can pick up this quest in a couple of different ways, but the preferred method is by traveling to Underworld and finding a comatose Reilly in bed at the Chop Shop.
- You can wake her up by either talking to Doctor Barrows and convincing him with a speech challenge or by having a high enough Medicine skill to wake her up yourself.
- Once she's awake, she will tell you that the rest of her group, known as Reilly's Rangers, are stuck on top of the Statesman Hotel. Agree to help her, and she'll give you the password to the Ranger Compound as well as a key to the ammo box of one of her fallen comrades.
- The trip to the Ranger Compound is optional, but highly recommended since you're going to have to go there anyway at the end of the quest to claim your reward. Might as well have the location now so you can fast travel to it later.
- To get to the Ranger Compound, fast travel to the Metro Central and head northwest. Look for a manhole that is behind a steel girder sticking out of some rubble. Enter the manhole to reach the sewers.
- Traverse the sewer, killing Super Mutants along the way, until you reach a door that will take you to Seward Square.
- When you emerge from the sewers, you'll want to start heading east when you get into the main area. Be extremely careful though as there will be a huge battle going on between Super Mutants and Talon Mercs. Stay away from cars as they're likely to start blowing up left and right.
- Keep heading east until you reach the compound. Look for sandbags and the Reilly's Rangers symbol painted on the wall. It looks like two swords crossed over a four leaf clover.
- Stock up on ammo, weapons and stimpacks inside the compound and then fast travel over to Dupont Station.
- Cross the bridge, head into the small alley and continue northeast to find a door leading to the Dry Sewers. It's to the right of the broken down house.
- It's a fairly straight forward path to the Hospital, but it's filled with Talon Mercs and Super Mutants. Luckily they're usually more interested in fighting each other than fighting you. Make sure to check all of the dead ends for extra stimpacks and ammo.
- The hospital has been totally overrun by Super Mutants. Be sure to check inside every room for first aid kits since they are in heavy supply as you'd expect of a hospital.
- When you've cleared out the area, head to the northwestern part of the floor to reach a door that will take you to the second level.
- When you get to the second floor you'll see a long hallway with a centaur patrolling. Kill the Centaur and head all the way to the end of the hall to find a safe with some goods.
- Retrace your steps and enter the double doors on the northern wall to enter the cafeteria. Take care of the enemies here and go forward until you reach a stairway that leads to Vernon Square.
- Run across the bridge that connects the hospital to the Statesman Hotel and then drop down to enter the door.
- Drop down again and then follow the path but stop at the rubble. Turn to face southeast and look at the ground. You'll see a trip wire that triggers a grenade bouquet. Disarm the trip wire or the grenades before proceeding.
- Head through the door into the hotel room and get rid of any nearby Mutant presence.
- When its clear, head through a door on the southern wall to reach a hallway. Follow the hallway westwards and climb the stairs.
- You'll find Theo's Ammo Box on these steps, so don't forget to open it and claim the mountain of ammo inside.
- Continue up the stairs but be careful of another trip wire before the door.
- Head through the door and enter the door on the right. Fight your way to the east end of the room and then go through the door to the north.
- Go across the hallway into the other door, kill all of the enemies and then sleep on one of the beds if you want to replenish your health.
- Exit through the door to the southeast and open the stairwell door.
- You'll be met by a Super Mutant as soon as you open the door, so be prepared.
- Head up the steps and then turn right when you reach the top.
- Plow a path down the hallway but check the locked door on your right for a supply room with some ammo and stimpacks.
- At the end of the hallway you'll find two open doorways leading to a room with two pillars in the middle and two Super Mutants guarding it.
- Take out the Muties and take note of the elevator on the right side. If you have a sufficient repair skill, you can repair the panel to the right of the elevator and take it up in to the Hotel Restaurant. If you do this, skip to step #26.
- If you can't continue heading west and enter the doorway. Grab the first aid kit on the wall.
- Turn right and head down the long hallway until you reach another staircase.
- Take the stairs all the way up and then once again shoot your self through the long hallway, making sure to check out the door on the right for a skillbook.
- At the end of the hallway is a door that will lead you to more stairs. Take them up and be ready for a Super Mutant coming down.
- There will be another trip wire near the top of the stairs so tread softly and keep your eyes on the floor.
- When you reach the top enter the door leading to the restaurant.
- Follow the red carpet until you reach a junction. Go left and you'll wind up where you would've emerged if you took the elevator. You can try going that way if you have the lockpicking skill required to open the door. If you do, be ready to be attacked by three Super Mutants including at least one Super Mutant Master.
- Otherwise, head right (west) and follow the path until you reach a doorway near a sign that reads Alfresco Lounge.
- Eliminate any Mutant resistance and then head down into the doorway below.
- Enter the next doorway and climb up the rubble this time. Kill the two Super Mutants at the top and laugh as the Super Mutant in the kitchen likely blows himself up by firing a weapon in a room with a gas leak.
- Head through either of the next doorways to reach the room you would've unlocked if you made a left at the junction. Be ready to deal with three Super Mutants at once including at least one Super Mutant Master.
- Check out the bar in the middle to find a Nuka Cola Quantum, a Grognak the Barbarian Skillbook and some ammo.
- Make sure to investigate the storage room under the stairs to the southwest. Loot the Protectron for its Fission Battery. You'll need it later.
- Head up the stairs to the southeast and follow the path to the north to finally reach the door leading to the roof.
- There will be lots of action going on above you, but you don't have to worry about being attacked. Follow the trail of dead mutants until you reach the stairs.
- Talk to the Rangers and tell them that you're here to get them out. They'll tell you that the elevator they plan on using to escape is on the fritz and needs a fission battery. Luckily you picked one up along the way.
- Give them the fission battery and wait until they repair the elevator. Or you can repair it yourself if you have the necessary points in repair.
- Enter the elevator when its repaired and be ready for a big firefight in the lobby of the hotel.
- Try your best to keep all of the rangers alive, even if it means reloading the autosave. They'll provide you with services at the end of the quest.
- When the lobby is clear, the Rangers will make their way to the compound. You should do the same.
- Fast travel back to the Ranger Compound and talk to Reilly to receive your reward. You can choose either Ranger Battle Armor which gives +5 AP, +1 LCK, +10 to Small Guns and has 24 damage resistance, or you can choose a unique minigun. I'd recommend the armor personally. Quest Completed
- TIP: Talk to Reilly again after the quest is over and you can work out a deal where you can get caps for every location you find on the map.
