Traveling to Olney Sewers
- YouTube: Shock Value Pt 1 (Time: 4:07)
- As Elder Lyons requests, go see Paladin Tristan for your next assignment. He can be found wandering around the B Ring of the Citadel.
- Your job is to go to the Olney Powerworks to retrieve an old experimental piece of technology called the Tesla Coil. Ask him if there is something that you could have to help and he'll point you in the direction of Scribe Vallincourt who should have something that will help make things a bit easier for you.
- Vallincourt can be found down at the Citadel lab so head over there and follow your quest marker to locate her. Unfortunately, if you're expecting a new weapon, you might be a bit disappointed. All she will give you is a device that will fool Enclave controlled DeathClaws into thinking that you're their master.
- Once you've talked to everyone of importance at the Citadel, head out and get ready to head towards Old Olney, located in the northeastern region of the wasteland.
- TIP: As any veteran of Fallout 3 knows, Old Olney = DeathClaw City. Not only are you going to have to go through Old Olney, but you'll actually have to travel through its expansive sewers that are absolutely filled with these beasts. As such, you're going to need to be armed to the teeth if you plan on surviving down there. Hopefully you have found the Alien Blaster and still have some ammo left over for it. Make sure that you're well stocked on Stimpacks as well.
- READER SUBMITTED TIP: Mahalo user Adambullied submitted a very helpful tip for those looking to save Alien Blaster ammo on DeathClaws. He recommends using the Dart Gun, which is a custom weapon that can be built by getting the schematic (he bought his at Tenpenny Tower), and then bringing a paint gun, radscorpian poison glands, a toy car, and surgical tubing to a work bench. Dart Gun ammo is very plentiful and the darts will slow down the DeathClaws to about a fourth of their normal speed, making them easy targets for your other weapons. Thanks for the tip!

- Fast travel to the nearest way point you have to the quest markers on your map and then start heading towards them.
- Before you head towards the marker that leads to the sewers, make a stop at the second marker to pick up your pet DeathClaw. It will be guarded by a small encampment of Enclave Soldiers. I personally wasn't able to keep it following me for very long, but maybe you'll have better luck.
- Once you reach Old Olney, head inside the town walls and work your way towards the manhole leading to the Olney Sewers.
DeathClaw Sewers
- YouTube: Shock Value Pt 4 (Time: 6:50)
- Hang a left at the first turn and open the door at the end of the tunnel. There may be a DeathClaw waiting on the other side. If he's not, then he's surely waiting behind the next door on the east wall.
- Kill the DeathClaw and head through the door. There's a door on your left that will lead you to a room with a Bottlecap Mine, Workbench, and an ammo box. Continue to the end of the hall and then head through the door to the right.
- Search the dead bodies here and you'll find the Prototype Medic Power Armor, which is some pretty useful and unique armor that will actually use Med-X on you when you're running low on health.
- Head through the hole in the wall and at the end of the cave you'll find a Duck and Cover skillbook. Use it to increase your Explosives skill.
- Head back to the hallway you were in before the area with the Medic Armor and follow the hallway north to find a room with a bunch of mattresses to sleep on along with a Nuka Cola Quantum, an ammo box, a Missile Launcher, a Fat Man, and three locked safes containing some caps.
- Head back to the entrance of the sewer and this time start heading down the path to the north. DeathClaws will be waiting behind almost every corner so be on your toes and try to attract the attention of more than one at a time.
- Follow the path until you turn the corner and see a door at the east end and a ramp leading upwards to the north. Open the door first and be ready for a DeathClaw on the other side.
- Inside this room is a safe with an average lock and a door with a very hard lock. If you can't get into the door don't worry about it too much. There is nothing of much interest inside.
- Head back out of this room and take the ramp heading north. Follow the path all the way to the end and you'll find a ladder on your left and a door at the end on the right wall. Take the door first and you'll find a room with a terminal that unlocks a Protectron, a First Aid Box, and a Ammo Box.
- Through the next door is a DeathClaw and a path that leads to a dead end, so just head back to the previous room and head up the ladder leading to Old Olney Underground.
- YouTube: Shock Value Pt 5 (Time: 8:00)
- You'll be greeted by a Ghoul named Mint when you emerge. He'll point you in the direction of the Powerworks and then be on his way.
- There isn't much of interest in the Ghoul's hideout so just move straight ahead to the doorway to the south. Head up the stairs and take the path around to the door to the west.
- Follow the path all the way down the steps and you'll come to a small area with a First Aid Box and a mattress to sleep and refill your health.
- Continue through the hole in the wall and be ready for a DeathClaw at the top of the rubble.
- Head up the ramp and you'll arrive at a large room made up of lots of small rooms with broken down walls. Proceed to the southwestern part of the room and head through the door.
- Follow the path to another large room with a giant hole in the ground. Before dropping down, make a scan for any DeathClaws. Once it's clear, jump down one level at a time until you hit the ground floor.
- Head south and then turn to face northwest to find an open doorway. Head through the doorway and face west. You'll probably see another DeathClaw down the hall. Be careful in this room though because it has a couple of mines lying around.
- Head down the western hallway and keep a finger on the trigger because lots of DeathClaws are going to be in this next area.
- Take your time exploring as there is a whole bunch of ammo and other goods that may prove to be useful. Check the locked cell door in the middle to find a Nuka Cola Quantum and a bunch of ammo for your assault rifles.
- Once you're done exploring, follow you quest marker and you'll eventually come to a doorway. Take the stairs inside up to the door leading to the Old Olney S. Wilson Building. Finally, we can say good-bye to DeathClaws for a while.
Olney Powerworks
- YouTube: Shock Value Pt 6 (Time: 8:37)
- Head up the stairs and turn left to face the doorway. Head straight ahead and drop down to the bottom level. Quickly turn to the right and take out the Enclave Soldier waiting for you.
- Run into the doorway along the east wall and take the stairs up. Follow the path out to the wide open area and continue heading north until you reach another room occupied by an Enclave Soldier.
- Search the room for valuable and pick the lock on the safe, and then head back out across the bridge and face southwest. Hop onto the sign that connects the two platforms and head across, but be on the look out for an Enclave Hellfire Trooper above to the North. These new enemies have a Heavy Incinerator which is like a Gatling Laser that shoots fireballs. Once you take them out, be sure to collect the Heavy Incinerator and their armor if you have the room.
- Once the area is clear, head into the room to the north and go down the stairs to reach the door leading to the Powerworks.
- The door to the left leads to a closet with a bunch of useless stuff, so just head up the stairs. When you reach the top you have a choice if you have 100 points in lockpicking. If you can pick the lock on the door to the left, you'll wind up right at the Tesla Coil room. If you do manage to pick the lock, skip to step 13.
- Otherwise, you're going to have to go the long way. Make a right when you reach the top of the staircase and head through the doorway. You'll be faced with two Sentry Bots on the bottom level.
- TIP: If you have 75 points in Science, hack the nearby terminal and select to shut down automated processes. Doing so will deactivate the Sentry Bots in this room.
- Head down to the bottom level once its clear and exit through the door at the southeast corner and follow the path until you reach a room with a Sentry Bot overlooking you from above. If you have a follower, you can take care of the bot easily by hugging the wall underneath it and just letting your follower take care of him. Fawkes with his Gatling Laser works wonders.
- Once the Sentry Bot is down, head up the stairs but stop before you head through the door with the green glow coming from the other side. If you have 75 points in Science, hack the terminal to turn off the radiation emitting vents. If you don't have 75 points, down some Rad-X and make a mad dash through the hall and open the door at the end.
- YouTube: Shock Value Pt 7 (Time: 5:46)
- You'll enter a cool looking room with a couple of Sentry Bots patrolling. Take them out and then proceed to the door at the other end of the room.
- TIP: Once again, with 75 points in Science you can hack the terminal at the other end of the room and turn off the Sentry Bots here. You can also turn off the turrets in the next room.
- If you didn't take care of them with the terminal, destroy the Mark VI Turrets to the left before trying to head towards the door to the right.
- Once the hall is clear, exit through the door at the north side and you'll arrive at the Tesla Coil room.
- Take a couple of steps forward and enter the doorway on the right to find a room with two First Aid Boxes containing Stimpacks and some Rad-X.
- Head back to the Tesla Coil room and head over to the northwestern corner to find a door. Head on through and then make a left at the split to go downstairs.
- Open the door at the bottom and search around the room to collect some very useful Alien Power Cells and a few stimpacks from a First Aid Box on the wall.
- If you have 75 points in Science, you can turn off the power to the Tesla Coil by hacking the terminal here. Otherwise, head through the doors to the east to reach the Tesla Coil room again. There are three levers along the wall that all need to be flipped off before the Tesla Coil is safe to grab.
- Once you have the Tesla Coil in your possession, retrace your steps back upstairs and take the ladder to return to Old Olney.
- Kill any DeathClaws in the immediate area and then fast travel back to the Citadel to deliver the Tesla Coil to Paladin Tristan. Ask him for your next assignment and you'll complete this quest.
