A report issued on June 2, 2009 by the European Chemical Agency states that of the 15 chemicals asked to be reviewed seven have been found to be toxic. These toxins are in wide uses by many people.
HOWEVER, based on the report itself, ECHA ECHA/PR/09/07, and a quick review of a variety of articles only ONE toxin, "musk xylene, a vPvB fragrance enhancer" is specifically listed as present in detergents and fabric softeners (see European Chemical Agency Report of June 2, 2009, Top 1 Link in the Mahalo top 7). Products must be checked on a case by case basis for actual ingredients and what is and is not present in them.
