Fable 2 Mission 9 The Crucible

The Crucible - Chapter Nine

  1. The Crucible consists of eight rounds, fighting in eight different rooms. Read the rules from the book on the table by the entrance to the first chamber, and eventually a man will ask you to step up to the first round.
  2. Head up the stairs into the first room to begin round 1.

Round 1

  1. You'll fight three waves of Beetles, and the last wave includes some higher-level Beetles.

  2. Use targeted Time Control to speed to each Beetle, and slice it to ribbons, to get a perfect round, though this isn't necessary to complete the round.

  3. When you defeat all three waves, a door opens up leading to round 2.

Round 2

  1. This round consists of fighting Hobbes, some of which have mechanical stilts and guns. There's two switches in this room that control the spikes circling the center - if there are Hobbes standing there, step on the switch to trigger the spikes for extra damage.

  2. Use targeted Time Control to chase the little Hobbes down - they'll run in fear of you after a few of their buddies die, which can make getting a perfect round difficult.

  3. When you defeat the three waves here, a door opens up that leads to round 3.

Round 3

  1. This round is also Hobbes, but there are explosive barrels scattered about - you can use these barrels to your advantage to take out large groups of Hobbes quickly, making this an easy perfect round.

  2. The Turret Rifle works rather well here - simply shoot them to your heart's content, especially if you have chain attacks, which makes rapid-fire for your gun even faster and easier(you just tap Y when you hear the mechanism click).

  3. When you defeat the Hobbes here, head through the newly-opened door to the Trader Room.

Trader Room

  1. Stock up on health potions, upgrade your weapons as you see fit, and head through the far exit to enter room 4.

Round 4

  1. Round 4 consists of three waves of Hollow Men, who spawn from wisps.

  2. You can use Time Control to make defeating these guys a snap - even with maxed out stats and a Master Cleaver, you'll have to wail on the last wave with three or four hits to kill them, so slow time and attack them in groups until time returns to normal.

  3. After you defeat them(using Time Control, you can make a perfect round easily), enter the door that was opened to start round 5.

Round 5

  1. This round consists of three waves of bandits, with bandit leaders being your major enemy in the third wave.

  2. Run forward, take a left, and stay on the bridge throughout this round. Towards the end, most of the enemies will spawn here, letting you get some early attacks as they orient themselves.

  3. When you defeat them all(again, a perfect round is easily obtained with Time Control), head through the door to round 6.

Round 6

  1. This round is a doozy - gunners will swarm to the outside edge, taking potshots at you, as you fight the melee fighters in the center. Use the switches on the ground to shoot flames from the ports on the wall, knocking the gunners into the pit.

  2. While standing on the switch, fight off the melee attackers and use Time Control to flit from place to place, as well as slow down time, to make this round much easier.

  3. When you defeat all three waves, head through the door that's opened up to enter the trader room.

Trader Room

  1. At this point, stop and check your Will - you'll want to upgrade to the highest level of Time Control to make things easier on yourself ahead. Stock up on health potions and get a new weapon if you've earned the money, then head to round 7.

Round 7

  1. You'll be fighting Balvarines here, hence the Time Control upgrade. Slow them down enough, and they're easy pickings - especially if you combine area-affect casts with targeted casts to slow them down and speed yourself up.

  2. In the third wave, you'll have to fight a white Balvarine - more difficult, faster, with better HP than a regular one. Again, Time Control turns this into a pussycat, so don't be afraid to use it.

  3. When you finish this round(which should be a perfect round), head through the door to round 8.

Round 8

  1. You'll have to fight one Rock Troll - you'll fight it just like the Forest Troll, targeting the glowing spots on its body.
  2. Hobbes will spawn in to annoy you, so use Raise Dead to give them someone to play with while you continue taking out the Rock Troll. Slow down time and run behind it to get some easy shots at the glowing spots on its back.
  3. When the troll is defeated, you'll have beaten the Crucible. Claim your trophy and gold, then head through the door back to Westcliff.
