Story
The game is a tale of revenge. You play as a young boy whose village is suddenly raided by bandits. Your family is taken away from you (your mother and sister and kidnapped and you father is killed). After experiencing such a monstrosity, you make it your mission to seek down those bandits, get back your living family members, and avenge your father's death. On the way you learn that things aren't quite what they seem. Unlike most RPGs, you have the power to decide whether to follow the path of light or fall to the darkness. -
Gameplay
Much of the gameplay that was announced for the game was taken out, however you still have the ability to adjust your characters alignment through various actions and interactions with NPCs. There is no character creation system in Fable however your appearance changes depending on how you play the story. If you play on the side of good you will have a halo over your head. If you decide to be evil, you'll have horns and flies hanging around you. There are also a multitude of different outfits, hairstyles, and tattoos to choose from that alter the way the townsfolk perceive you. Besides accessories, you also age, get scars, and if you eat too much, get fat. The game is utilizes RPG elements such as experience points (XP) that you spend to increase certain traits. XP is earned during combat and you gain it for anything you kill. You gain bonus XP for how you handle yourself. If you use strength often, you will gain extra strength XP. Your character's abilities are separated into three different attributes: Strength, Will, and Skill. Strength is good if you want to perform melee combat. There are dozens of available weapons. Will is for using 16 upgradeable spells. Skill is for ranged combat, thievery, and bargaining tactics. Quests are taken at the Heroes' Guild. Quests are noted as being vital to the story or optional quests. Take one and you can then boast for extra renown and cash. Boasts are a way of increasing the difficulty of quests. Combat is a blend of melee and spells. You can switch between the different types of attacks and combine certain spells and block or roll-dodge. During combat there is an XP multiplier. As the meter fills, the amount of XP you can earn increases exponentially at the end of the battle. The game is 30+ depending on how in-depth you play the game. -
