F-Zero is a futuristic racing game for the SNES and Virtual Console, developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo. It is the first in the F-Zero series. With its futuristic look and feel, the game was praised by several media outlets at the time as one of the fastest and smoothest pseudo-3D racers of all time.
Gameplay
Players could choose from one of four different types of vehicles. Each vehicle had its own characteristics, most notably its acceleration. A race consists of five laps, with the goal of winning a race. A player could continue racing as long as he or she was not in last place at the end of a lap.
- Hazards: Most of the courses had hazards, including land mines, slip zones and magnets. Also, the side barriers were a danger. Hitting any of those hazards depleted a player's life bar partially. Additionally, when two vehicles collided, both player's life bars are depleted partially. If the player's life bar reaches zero, the car explodes and the game ends.
- Fuel: A player's life bar can be refueled by hovering over a refuel station, located throughout the course. Most of the time, the refuel station is located in the beginning of a track.
