Extras is a British television series co-produced by the BBC and HBO. Written and directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who also star in the series, Extras follows the working lives of struggling actors Andy Millman and Maggie Jacobs and what happens when Andy attains a modicum of sitcom fame after the BBC picks up his show When the Whistle Blows.
Every episode of Extras includes a famous guest star, who typically spoofs his or her public persona. Kate Winslet, Orlando Bloom, Ian McKellan, David Bowie and Patrick Stewart all appeared on the show. The series ran for two six-episode seasons and returned for one hour-long Christmas special.
Gervais and Merchant have joked about writing a spin-off series featuring Merchant's character agent Darren Lamb and his client, former EastEnders cast member Barry, living in a camper and "solving crimes."
