Exoticism and Legend
As far as food is concerned, exoticism is determined by the palate of the diner. Some of the unusual meals that are considered exotic in most cultures include dogs, the head of a goat, duck tongue, and insects such as grasshoppers.New York Magazine: Extreme EatingA popular urban legend is the eating of Monkeys brain. The Straight Dope: In Asia, do people scoop the brains out of a monkey's skull and eat them? According to legend, the monkey is strapped to a special table with a hole in the center to allow the head to poke through. Then the monkey is struck unconscious using special hammers, the head is then sawed open and the brains are consumed with a small spoon.maxent.org: Live Monkey Brains. Research suggests that this is simply an urban legend that was solidified by sequences in the films Faces of Death and Mondo Cane, and is not practiced, nor considered socially acceptable in modern societies of Asia or anywhere else in the world. The Japan Times: Debunking strange Asian myths
