Malkin began playing junior hockey in Russia, joining the
Metallurg Magnitogorsk in
2003. He was then drafted second overall in the
2004 NHL Draft by the
Pittsburgh Penguins. He continued to play in the
Russian Super League for two addition seasons, including representing Russia in the
2006 Winter Olympics. Malkin joined the Penguins in 2006 after a legal battle with his Russian Team. He finally made his NHL debut on
September 20, 2006. Malkin had an exceptional rookie season, scoring 33 goals and 52 assists, which led to his
Calder Memorial Trophy selection in
2007. Malkin continued to help the Penguins in the 2007-
08 season and was selected for his first
NHL All-Star Game.
