Evening Gowns are a formal women's dress often worn to special occasions and social events. They range in style and fabric and are often worn to black tie events, proms, and weddings. Prior to the evening gown there was the ball gown, which a dress worn to event by invitation only. The gown was full skirted and considered to be the most formal attire for the female.

Evening gowns are differentiated by their cut and fabric. Some are cut classic while others have a more experimental couture look. Fabrics vary from silk to a thicker material like taffeta and are then beaded, jeweled, or added sequin. For high profile events like the Academy Awards, designers will create one of a kind evening gowns for the female celebrities. -
