Eve was one of a new breed of tough, talented, commercially viable female MCs to hit the rap scene during the late '90s. During her time in High School Eve honed her skills through freestyle battles and formed a female rap duo called EDGP. When the group broke up she went solo and changed her name to "Eve of Destruction." After meeting
Dr. Dre in
Los Angeles she impressed the super-producer with an impromptu audition and was signed to his new
Aftermath label. When the label changed direction Eve's contract was allowed to expire. While he was in
Los Angeles promoting his album
It's Dark and Hell is Hot, Eve met and auditioned for
DMX's Ruff Ryders posse. After contributing to several different hit singles Eve released her first full-length album, titled
Let There Be Eve...Ruff Ryders First Lady in
1999. Her sophmore effort,
2001's Scorpion rocketed Eve to fame with the popular hits
Who's That Girl? and
Let Me Blow Ya Mind which won a
Grammy in the newly created category of Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.
