Evan Longoria was born in [[Downey[[, California on October 7, 1985. His father is of Mexican descent and his mother's family is from the Ukraine. He attended St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California, Rio Hondo Community College, and Cal State Long Beach college.
While at Rio Hondo he garnered First team All-State honors and earned a Scholarship to Long Beach State; being named to the All Conference team and capturing Big West Player of the Year honors. Baseball America also recognized him as the best pure hitter among college players.
Evan was drafted 3rd overall in 2006 by the Tampa Bay Rays]. He spent his first full season in professional baseball playing in 62 games for three different teams; the Hudson Valley Renegades, the Visalia Oaks and the Montgomery Biscuits hitting .318 with 14 doubles, 15 home runs and 58 runs batted. Longoria started the 2007 season playing for the Biscuits before being promoted to the Durham Bulls, appearing in a combined 171 games hitting 33 home runs with 133 runs batted in with a batting average of .298. In November of 2007, he helped Team USA win their first IBAF World Cup since 1974. Longoria made his Major League Baseball debut on April 12, 2008 against the Baltimore Orioles, replacing an injured Willy Aybar. Longoria was the unanimous winner of the 2008 American League Rookie of the year title; the announcement being made on November 10, 2008 by Major League Baseball.
During the 2009 off-season Longoria enrolled at the Athletes Performance Institute in Arizona where he received specialized instruction in weight training, exercise drills and a mapped-out menu. It was the first time in his career he didn't work out on his own.

During the 2009 season Longoria continued to get rave reviews and press. He played in 157 games and came to the plate 584 times. He responded by driving in 113 runs and scoring a 100. Throw in the 33 home runs, 44 doubles and a .281 batting average and you have a 2nd year player selected to play in the mid year classic All Star game; repeating his selection as a 2008 rookie.

Evan Longoria - 2008 Season
Evan burst onto the scene in 2008 for the Rays, laying claim to the 3rd base position and making it his own. In this, his rookie year, Longoria slammed out 27 home runs, 31 doubles and 2 triples. For better measure he also chipped in 85 RBIs and scored 67 runs; all in only 122 games and 448 at bats.
