The junior U.S. Senator from Indiana, Evan Bayh, was widely speculated to be one of the top names on President Barack Obama's list of potential running mates for the 2008 presidential election.
On August 22, 2008: KMBC-TV in Kansas City reported that bumper stickers bearing the slogan Obama Bayh '08 and due to be shipped to Denver were being made by a local printing plant.KMBC: Bumper Sticker Could Indicate Bayh Is Obama's Veep(August 21, 2008) However MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell reported on Chris Matthews's Hardball that the bumper stickers are in the wrong font and that Joe Biden was the likely choice. Biden was chosen as Obama's running mate early the next morning.
On the same day, it was revealed that a previously unannounced Obama event would be taking place in Bayh's home state of Indiana on Saturday, August 23, 2008.
