Etihad is becoming one of the fastest growing airlines in the world. With just five years in operation it has reached the important figure of 17 million passengers carried. Based at Abu Dhabi International Airport and backed up by the United Arab Emirates government and the Zayed Al Nahyan Royal Family, Etihad is planning a $25 billion Dirham redevelopment and expansion project for the terminal that will increase the airport´s annual capacity from 12 million to 40 million passengers, making it the largest and busiest in the world and defining Etihad intentions to become a 21st. century global airline. Today, the airline has redefined the concept of luxury air travel with its new first class suite. On September 2009, it began offering the first aircraft cabins with 12 individual suites full of Italian Poltrona Frau Leather upholstery which will deliver first class customers with more privacy, greater comfort and spacious compartment areas. Etihad Acquisitions

Etihad it is setting an ambitious expansion plan that include one of the largest aircraft and engines purchase in commercial aviation history with the firm order for 129 Airbus and Boeing commercial jets and 239 engines, with the intention to buy another 105 aircraft and additional 230 engines. Deliveries will be scheduled between 2011 and 2020.

It had also placed an order for the purchase of 10 Airbus A380, the largest commercial aircraft in the world, with the intended option to buy 5 more.
