Eternal Sonata is a beautifully-rendered, cell-shaded role-playing game that is heavily influenced by classical music and classical composers. The battle system is turn-based, but incorporates elements not common to turn-based battle systems. A compelling story, easy gameplay, stunning visuals and a musical score second to none make Eternal Sonata well worth playing. The PS3 version includes two characters, Crescendo and Serenade, who were not available in the Xbox 360 version, as well as a clothing system that allows players to change their characters' outfits. Otherwise, the two versions are almost identical. Note that this guide is written for the Xbox 360 version.

Combat
- Your characters can only do so much on their turn. This is indicated by the meter on the left side of the screen. Movement, abilities and attacking drain the meter. Doing nothing does not drain the meter. This allows you to plan your strategy without fear of being attacked.
- TIP: You have unlimited time to plan your strategy early in the game. As the game progresses, the amount of time you have to wait will gradually reduce. It is best to get used to acting quickly early in the game.
- Keep pressing the attack button. Each successful attack allows you a little more time to continue attacking.
- Before an enemy attacks, your character will be given a brief chance to guard. This is indicated by a small shield appearing just before an enemy attacks. Hit B when you see this. Your character will take reduced damage if the guard is successful.
- Note the shading on the battlefield. This is very important. Your character's special attacks and enemy abilities will change depending on where they stand. Some enemies can change if they enter the shadows. Your characters can also use different attacks/abilities if they are standing in either the sunshine or the shadows. Pay attention to where the enemy and your characters are. Light and dark abilities can dramatically effect a battle.
- Once your party attains level four, you will gain the use of Echoes. These can be utilized by performing a Special Attack when you have at least 24 Echoes saved up. Press Y when you see Harmony Chain appear. This will execute the Harmony Chain and cause massive extra damage.
- TIP: Make sure you play the combat tutorial if you are not familiar with the game.
Path to Tenuto
- Fight the Very Very Empty (the bobbing green blob.) This will give you a combat tutorial if you are not familiar with the game.

- Save at the glowing sphere. Save Points are the only places you can save your game. If you see one, use it.
- Follow the path. There is a chest on the right side early on. There is also another chest further up, to the left side of a fork in the road.

Boss: Ogre King and Wicked Shrub
- TIP: Keep Viola (or whoever is healing) in the center of the area. This is the greatest concentration of light.
- TIP: The Ogre King is very similar to the Ogre Champ. His attacks are almost identical and are all high-power melee attacks.
- NOTE: The Wicked Shrub has a variety of ranged, AoE and Poison attacks. Kill him quickly. Keep recovery items close at hand when fighting him.
- YouTube: Eternal Sonata - Boss 17 "Wicked Shrub & Ogre King" (Time: 8:56)
- Keep your healer well away from the Wicked Shrub. His ranged and Poison attacks can wreak havoc on your healer.
- TIP: Have your most powerful fighter work on Wicked Shrub while the other attacks the Ogre King. This prevents the Ogre King from scoring back attacks on your melee fighters.
- Save your Echoes and blast Ogre King with Harmony Chains once Wicked Shrub is dead.
- NGP: Use the Orb on the apparatus. This gives you a Lion's Chime and transports you to the entrance.
- Achievement: Xylophone's Treasure.

- TIP: Have your heaviest hitters charge White Jewel and hammer away with your strongest attacks.
- YouTube: Eternal Sonata - Boss 21 "White Jewel" (Time: 5:59)
- Return to the first floor.
- Head down the southern ramp. This takes you to the Tower Base.
- Go down to the bottom. Climb the sand staircase.
- Use the teleporter at the end. This takes you to the highest floor.
- Save.
- Go through the doors. Get ready for a big fight.
Boss: Ruined Body
- TIP: Try to defend every attack. Even normal attacks can deal up to 4,300 damage. Defending every attack is critical to winning this fight.
- NOTE: The Blood Sink attack lowers the target's Stats in addition to dealing massive damage. Be sure to defend against this.
- Have Viola (or whoever your designated healer is) keep Healing Arrow/other heals going the entire fight. You will probably need them.
- TIP: Use Ruined Body's shadow for dark attacks. This works very well if you prefer dark attacks. There is also shadow at the far north end of the area.
- Save your Echoes for Harmony Chains. You will need them to kill the Ruined Body before it runs you out of healing items.
- Stay on top of healing. This is critical. Ruined Body can take a single character down several thousand HP in a single turn. Keeping all your characters topped off will ensure you do not need to revive anyone.
- NOTE: Ruined Body has a single ranged attack and prefers to use Blood Sink. It is also very slow. Try using hit-and-run attacks to wear it down.
- Achievement: Hero's Gate.
- Save when the fight is over.
- TIP: You now have two choices: you can go through the portal to the end or you can explore the Mysterious Unison dungeon. We highly recommend exploring Mysterious Unison. This will make your next game much easier. If you want to finish the game, go through the portal.
Boss: Frederic Francois Chopin
- NOTE: There are very few shadows in the area. The only ones are provided by clouds that move. Try to use light attacks.
- Keep your ranged fighters and healers well away from Frederic. He has a very powerful AoE meteor shower that will hit anyone close to him.
- Keep your healer going for the entire fight.
- TIP: Save your Echoes for Harmony Chains. These will be devastating if you visited Mysterious Unison.
- YouTube: Eternal Sonata - Final Boss - Major Spoilers (Time: 9:04)
- Frederic's Orzel Bialy attack knocks down anyone it hits. Be ready for it. He favors this attack heavily.
- NOTE: After you kill Frederic, you will be given the option to Save. Save if you want to play Encore mode (New Game Plus.) Do not save if you simply wish to see the ending.
- NOTE: The ending to the game is around 45 minutes long. Make sure you have nothing else to do before you start watching it.
- Achievement: Heaven's Mirror.
Mysterious Unison
- Return to the Noise Dunes.
- Walk east or west three times to reach the Oasis.
- Use the Hero's Crest on the door to gain access to the dungeon.
- TIP: The dungeon is filled with high-level monsters and mini bosses. We recommend leveling to 66+ before entering.
- Speak to Claves. She will ask you to retrieve the seven pieces of her soul (Soul Shards.)
- TIP: You can use Claves in the dungeon, but her level is the same as when you last saw her (probably in the 20s.) Using her can be a challenge, but it does pay off later.
- Save.
- NOTE: This Save Point is the only one in the entire dungeon.
- Go past the Save Point. You will find a teleporter and a Mercurius. Kill the Mercurius to access the teleporter.

- Have Viola use Healing Arrow throughout the fight.
- TIP: Designate one party member as your backup healer. You will probably need one. Keeping your HP topped off is very important for this fight.
- Rondo's attacks are all high-powered melee attacks. They hit for between 7,000 and 20,000 damage. Be prepared to take the full brunt of damage each time.
- TIP: Harmony Chains are the key to beating Rondo. Use them as often as you can. This is the only way you will kill Rondo before she burns all your healing items.
- TIP: Salsa and March, are excellent for racking up Echoes quickly. March can power a full Harmony Chain in a single round of attacks.
- NOTE: Be careful using March to power your Harmony Chains. High damage output means she will absorb the brunt of the attacks. You will have to heal her every turn.

- TIP: The key to beating Annihilator lies in Harmony Chains. The faster you can crank these out, the easier Annihilator will be.
- TIP: Select whichever characters you find to rack up Echoes the quickest. Salsa and March are the fastest, though their stats are low compared to others. Use whoever works best for you.
