Escape from New York is a 1981 Science fiction/Action film directed by John Carpenter. It stars Kurt Russell, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence, Isaac Hayes and Adrienne Barbeau. The film was written by John Carpenter as a reaction to the Watergate scandal.
Plot Summary (Spoiler Alert!)
In 1997, New York city has been turned to a maximum security prison due to the huge crime rates. All the bridges were filled with mines, a large wall is built around the shoreline, and a huge police force is ordered to kill any prisoner who attempts to escape. Air Force One is hijacked but the President has escaped in a pod landing to Manhattan. A new prisoner, Snake Plissken is offered to be freed only if he can rescue the president and finds the tape, containing all the information for the conference. Snake agrees to it, but he is injected with two microscopic capsules that will explode within 24 hours and it can only be destroyed if his mission is successful.
