Knee Injury
Johnson suffered a season-ending injury in mid-September of 2008 while on a team bonding trip with fellow St. Louis Blues players and management. He reportedly got his right foot caught between the brake and the accelerator on a golf cart, tearing two ligaments. Two MRIs confirmed the damage and corrective surgery was performed. Prior to joining the NHL, Johnson played hockey in high school at Holy Angels High School in Minnesota. Starting in 2004, he played with the U.S. National Team Development Program, winning gold medals with Team U.S.A. at the 2005 and 2006 World Under-18 Championships.Official Site of the St. Louis Blues: Erik Johnson Bio Johnson was selected first overall in the 2006 NHL entry draft, but chose to play one season at the University of Minnesota before joining the NHL.
