Stonestreet began acting in university when a friend dared him to audition for the play Prelude to a Kiss. He won a role in the play, and has been acting since. After graduation, he moved to Chicago and did theater, improv (Improv Olympics Chicago and The Second City), and commercials. After spending two years in Chicago, Stonestreet decided to move to Los Angeles to further his career.
