Eric O’Flaherty started his major league career with the Seattle Mariners back in 2006. He was drafted out of high school in the sixth round in the 2003 draft. As a senior, he had a 5-2 record with a 1.99 ERA. Because of his efforts, he was named Walla Walla High School’s Pitcher and Player of the Year. http://mlb.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=447714 O’Flaherty debuted August 16th against the Oakland A’s after he was called up that day from Triple A Tacoma. http://mlb.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=447714
His debut wasn’t exactly mind blowing. In 2/3 of an inning against the A's, he hit a batter, walked another, and recorded his first strikeout. Ironically, O’Flaherty was there to replace former Brave Rafael Soriano who also pitched for the Mariners at the time and who was injured. Soriano recovered and O’Flaherty was almost sent back to the minors when infielder Greg Dobbs was sent back instead allowing O’Flaherty to make his major league debut.
O’Flaherty was the only player in Mariners’ history to start his career with seven consecutive wins. But O’Flaherty struggled with the Mariners in 2008. His ERA ballooned to 20.25 giving up 15 earn runs in 6.2 innings pitch in seven appearances. http://mlb.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=447714
Because of his struggles, he was sent back to the minors; the Braves picked him up off waivers in November of 2008 and he debut for the Braves in 2009.
