Eric Clapton is an English guitarist, singer and songwriter, and one of the most prolific blues and rock players ever to hit the scene.
Playing Style
Clapton's 40-plus-year career has run the gamut across blues, rock and pop. Initially a blues purist, inspired by the playing of Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, Clapton honed his blues sound in The Yardbirds and John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers before bridging the gap with rock power trio Cream. Clapton embraced his full-on rock side with Blind Faith and Derek and the Dominos before going solo in a career that explored diversity (including collaborations with producers such as Phil Collins and Babyface). Clapton scored a hit with the acoustic ballad "Tears in Heaven," but in the early 2000s, made a triumphant return to the blues, trading licks on record alongside the likes of masters like B.B. King.
