Equatorial Guinea is one of the smallest countries in Africa. The country is located on the west central coast of Africa and is bordered by Cameroon and Gabon. Equatorial Guinea is in fact two degrees North of the Equator, and no part of the country is technically "equatorial."
Land and Sea
Equatorial Guinea consists of a rectangular territory on mainland Africa and two large islands in the Bight of Biafra. The capital city, Malabo is on the northernmost island of Bioko.
Growing Prosperity and Inequity
Equatorial Guinea is the third largest oil producer in South Saharan Africa and has the ninth largest per-capita gross domestic product in the world. Despite this, most of the country survives on subsistence farming and Equatorial Guinea ranks 122nd out of 177 on the United Nations Human Development Index.
