Enya is a Grammy Award-winning Irish singer and songwriter whose has helped to popularize New Age music throughout the world.
She released her first album Enya in 1987. However, her big breakthrough came with the release of her second album, Watermark. It featured the hit song "Orinoco Flow", also known as "Sail Away." It topped the charts in the UK. Since then she has released such hit songs as "Only Time," "Wild Child," "Amarantine" and "Someone Said Goodbye."
When Enya’s song ‘’May it Be’’ was featured in the movie The Lord of The Rings : The Fellowship of the Ring she added even more members to her fanbase.
Brief Bio
Eithne Patricia Ni Bhraonain was born May 17, 1961 and is the fourth youngest of nine children. She comes from the small village of Dobhar in the Gaoth Dobhar area of County Donegal which is located in the northwest region of the Republic of Ireland . She was raised in a very musical family. Her father owns a local pub and he and her mother performed in a band before settling down. Two of her elder siblings and 2 of her uncles formed a band called An Clan As Dobhar which later became Clanad when her sister joined in 1973.
The band became internationally famous and in 1980 Enya joined under her given name and performed keyboard and backing vocals. Eithne left the group in 1982 and began working on her own musical career. She was commissioned to write the music for the 1985 film the Frog Prince and was credited as Enya Ni Bhraonain. She was signed to write and then perform music for a series titled The Celts and a selection of the music was released under the title Enya in 1987. Her next album Watermark contained the song Orinocco Flow that rose to an unexpected chart position of number one in several countries.
