Background

John Schmersal started Enon after the dissolution of his previous band, Brainiac, following the death of lead singer Timmy Taylor. He recruited Rick Lee and Steve Calhoon, former members of the band Skeleton Key.

After releasing their second album, 1999's Believo!, Calhoon left the band and was replaced by current members Toko Yasuda and Matt Schulz. Shortly thereafter, the band was signed by Chicago's Touch and Go Records.
