There are at least five different kinds of land units in Empire Total War that players can use in battle. These range from various human soldiers to rolling Howitzers. Some of the troops are on horseback, while others use muskets or grenades to blast through enemy defenses.Official Site: Units

1. Elite Light Infantry - These have many different names in the game, but they all the same purpose. They think for themselves and are trained to pick off high ranking enemy soldiers.
2. Clansmen - Strong men that fight mostly with swords or clubs, but can also wield pistols. These passionate tribesmen will stop at nothing to destroy the enemy.
3. Mamluks - These men ride on horseback and attack with swords. There purpose is to harass enemy lines and hopefully pick them off as they run for their lives.
4. Grenadiers - Equipped with muskets and grenades, these troops are big and strong enough to hurl explosives accurately. Unfortunately, the fuses on the grenades aren't complete reliable and they occasionally misfire.
5. Howitzer Foot Artillery - This artillery is capable of firing different kinds of shells at enemies. When the enemy is far away, solders can volley a mortar-like round over their defenses, and when close they use a shell that gives an effect kind of like a sawed-off shotgun.Official Site: Units
