Empire State Building

The Empire State Building is an iconic skyscraper in New York City and a National Historic Landmark in the United States.

History

The Empire State Building was built during the Great Depression in 1931 and is 102 stories tall. Being the tallest building in New York City, it is also responsible for broadcasting a majority of the city's television and FM radio signals. The building has also appeared many times in popular culture, such as the blockbuster films King Kong and Independence Day.

Plane Crash

On Saturday, July 28, 1945, a B-25 Bomber crashed into the Empire State Building killing 14 people.Elevator World: Elevator World The crash occurred at the 79th floor and was officially ruled as an accident due to pilot error. Although the resulting fire damaged the building somewhat severely, the steel structure remained intact and the majority of the building was open for business on the following Monday.
