According to Emotion Mining's official site, its methods are based on the work of founder and CEO Tom Snyder, a psychiatrist and neuroscientist. The company's methods appear to resemble that of a focus group, except that its research is conducted online and seeks to tap into the subjects' subconscious. Website claims accurate and reliable access to the subconscious factors that drive behavior. A March 25, 2008, press release from the company reported research to the effect that the presidential candidacy of John McCain provokes "a mix of troubling emotions" in subjects, including "anger," "insecurity" and "depression."
